TBA ~ ‘Doryak’ Boat-building Workshop: Session I – 8am – 4pm each day
Adult/Child teams OR the First-time boat builder can build the 14’ Doryak over the course of a weekend. All tools & Materials for completion of the basic boat will be provided. Registration Required. Cost $350 per boat. Scholarships available.
February 13 ~ Sailors Valentines Workshop – 1pm
Learn how to make small versions of this intricate nautical craft. Included with admission to the museum and free to museum members.
February 27 ~Journey To Freedom: Underground Railroad Event Day
Interactive Program at 1pm at Museum. Learn about what it was like to escape via the Underground Railroad. This educational, appropriate for all ages program starts at 1pm at the Museum. Two Underground Railroad Trolley Tours will also be offered earlier in the day. Registration required for Trolley Tour, not required for program.
April 22-24 & April 29-May 1 ~ Art Exhibition: Session I
Art Exhibition during normal Museum hours. Featuring unseen glass negatives from the museum’s private collections. There will be several of these leading up the City of Sandusky Bicentennial.
May 2 ~ Sandusky Area Maritime Association Annual Meeting & Dinner- Begins @ 5 pm
Meeting at the Museum, followed by dinner and a program at the Sandusky Yacht Club.
May 21 ~ International Museum Day & KidsFest 10am-4pm
Nautical Flea Market, Reduced or Free admission & children’s activities at most Erie County museums and the 10th Annual KidsFest/Safety Fair (12-4pm) at the Sandusky Bay Pavilion.
June 18 ~ Little Skippers Seafaring Fun Day ~ 10am – 4pm
Kids Crafts & Activities during Museum Hours. Participate in sea-related, kid-approved fun.
July 4 ~ Big Splash Raffle Early Bird Drawing
20 people with Big Splash Tickets will win $500 each. (Ticket stubs must be returned by July 4th at 1:00pm to be entered in the Early Bird Drawing.)
July 11 to 15 ~ Sandusky Bay Science Camp~ 9am - 1pm
Learn about all things nature during programs held at the Maritime Museum, Sandusky Bay Pavilion and accompanying field trips. This Camp is FREE including the field trips, but Reservations are required; call 419-624-0274.
August 19 ~Bash Before the Splash ~ 6 - 9pm. August 20 ~11th Annual Big Splash Raffle~ 12 - 5pm
Over $250,000 in Cars, Cash, and other Prizes! $100.00 per ticket. Live Band on Friday Night! Hosted at the Sandusky Bay Pavilion. Go to BigSplashRaffle.com for more details.
October 15 ~ Boo at the Bay ~ 12pm- 4pm
Participate in pirate and Halloween-related activities, games, crafts and more! Held at the Maritime Museum and the Sandusky Bay Pavilion and hosted by Maritime Museum.
December 3 ~Kids Gingerbread Workshop~ 10am – 11am and 1pm – 2pm
Get into the Holiday Spirit with this festive food workshop! Kids can choose to make either an edible Mermaid Castle or a Caribbean Hut with a boat dock. Pre-Registration required for both sessions. Kids projects are $6 each.
December 10 ~Adult Gingerbread Lighthouse Workshop ~ 10am – 12pm
A food workshop just for adults! Assemble this popular holiday treat in the form of an 18” Lighthouse. All gingerbread & icing is made in house at the museum. Due to the limited number, Pre-Registration is required. Lighthouse Kit is for ages 12 and up. Cost $20 per kit.
November 21 to January 3 ~Have a Maritime Christmas ~ Museum hours
Celebrate the Holidays by visiting the Maritime Museum! The Museum will be fully ‘deck-ed’ out and open winter hours. A temporary winter exhibit will be on display through March featuring Ice Boat and Ice Fishing in Sandusky Bay.
