There's still plenty to do at the museum even after we transition out of our Summer Schedule!
The new Underground Railroad Exhibit is coming soon. It's a great addition to the museum. It will feature a historically accurate Sharpie replica, the type of boat most commonly used to
help slaves escape.

Dan May's Book Signing was a success!
Special thanks to Dan May, his dedicated fans and new fans, and first-time visitors to the Maritime Museum! We had a great crowd and great time at the signing of his new book Street Urchins, Poets, and Dream Visitors! Dan read from the new book and played a few Sandusky favorites like Christmas in my Hometown, Chausee Liaison, and Crawling to Cleveland. Local musician Scott Canfield backed Dan up with some nice acoustic guitar and perfect harmony.
The crowd also got to hear the two songs wrote for the Martime Museum and premiered at Music at the Maritime in November. Both songs focus on important aspects of Sandusky's Martime heritage: Tracks up to the Sky focuses on the coal docks on the city's western skyline and Sail Away tells the story of runaway slaves making their way toward freedom through Sandusky's Underground Railroad stations. Both songs highlight two new exhibits at the Museum and folks loved the melody and lyrics Dan used to tell these stories.
Thanks again to Dan May! We look forward to hosting Dan for future events, keep an eye on our website and FB page for details.
